Health Camp:

Many of the health problems in the villages have been reduced by awareness, hygienic practices. This has been experience of organization since last decade. To create better health awareness and promote hygienic practices and to identify major health problems in villages, health awareness & problem identification camps have been organized in villages.  

Focus had given to immunize the children and regular antenatal checkup of pregnant mothers. The camps have organized with support of CHC, Chandrapur and Community Volunteers. In the camps – diagnosis carried out and free medicine distributed to the needy and poor tribal with the support of local volunteers and Doctors and Para medical staff of the local CHC and Sub Centres.

 

Sanitation:

As mentioned earlier PRABHAT is the only NGO in the district has been awarded with  the certificate of excellence for its contribution in the field of sanitation in a tribal block like Chandrapur in the backward Rayagada district. 

Before inception of Latrine Construction work, the organization had started entry point activity through Awareness Generation for 4 months in  Panchayats of Chandrapur Block covering 93 villages.

The coordination and support of the villagers and support of local administration was quite memorable. Over the years, the organization has constructed 893 Nos. of Household latrines in Chandrapur block (4 Panchayatas) 15 villages and in Muniguda Block (One Panchayat) 2 villages [Total covering 2 Blocks, 5 Panchayatas and 17 villages covering 1013 households]. The support of the Village Sanitation Committees in the form of selecting the beneficiaries and ensuring the construction work smoothly was quite memorable. This could ensure proper management of resource and local workers in most reasonable manner.

Swacch Bharat Awareness:

As sanitation arrangement is very poor, the people are suffering a lot so far their health and hygiene is concerned. Hence, to make the General mass conscious on sanitation arrangement, awareness activities on Swacch Bharat were taken up. Further, to avoid some diseases that has been occurred due to improper and poor sanitation practice.  All the people of Rayagada and Kalahandi blocks aware on the water resources, the drains clean. Besides the above, they were aware to take tube well or boiled water for drinking purpose. Further, the organization encouraged the villagers to use latrine instead of using the roadside for defecation. Some IEC materials were also distributed to the villagers and the villagers encouraged installing IHHL.

YOGA Awareness:

Yoga attends to all aspects of our being – body, mind, breath, emotions and the inner self. Awareness of breath establishes you in the present moment.  Yoga asanas contribute towards physical well-being.

As part of the awareness program, PRABHAT NGO made awareness on yoga asanas and promotion of moral education in the primary schools in its geographical area of operation i.e. Rayagada, Kolnara and Kalyansingpur blocks. PRABHAT recruited a Yoga teacher as resource person to equip the student in Yoga and physical practices at schools. About 576 school students underwent yoga training.  Apart from the above during the year we have organize six numbers of Yoga awareness camps in different places of the above blocks being participated by 325 youths. These camps organized to build healthy characteristics for students as well of public

MALARIA AWARENESS:

Malaria is a dangerous disease in the tribal areas in Odisha because of absence of health, transportation, and communication facilities in hard to reach areas. To empower and educate the community about malaria, PRABHAT in association with district level officials organized awareness campaign program on Malaria eradication in hard-to-reach areas of Rayagada, Kalahandi districts.

 

The main objective of the campaigns was to give information regarding prevention of malaria. In some villages, people do not know about malaria and go to local healers (Guru and Kabiraj) who are easily available in their locality and hence the rally also aimed to motivate people to utilize medical facilities.

AWARENESS ON WATER & SANITATION:

Our endeavor has been for making basic health facilities available in the remote areas of Kalahandi and Jagatsinghpur district focusing on awareness, preventive and curative aspects and complementing it with networking and linkages with the government health care structures. The three-fold objectives of the programme is to reach out in remote villages through the support of Community Health Workers (CHWs), network with other state-run health personnel and NGOs working in health-care sectors for making health facilities available for all and provide community health services through mobile vans/community health centre.  PRABHAT had created awareness through video shows, talks, plays, debate and competition in the schools, involving schoolchildren on the sanitation and use of water and water borne diseases.

AWARENESS CAMP ON HIV/AIDS:

At the advent of HIV/AIDS into the human world medical science reached to a thresh old of new era of challenges. This is the diseases which leads human being to a fatal condition and is caused by lack of immune power in the human body. Now the disease has penetrated in the slum and migrant prone areas of the district to a greater extent. In some rural parts of the district a number of people were migrating to different places to earn their livelihood to different states, where the prevalence rate HIV/AIDS victims are high and it is the irony that the migrating people are habituated with multi partner sexual relationship to earn money. Therefore, there are every possibilities of getting effect with HIV/AIDS. Hence to aware the target group on the issues and challenges relating to HIV/AIDS, awareness camps were organized by the organization  in different migrant prone area  i.e. just before migration. During the camps  Sexual health, Reproductive health, Causes of RTI/STI & HIV/AIDS, Preventive and Curative measures of RTI/STI, Adolescent Health issues, Preventive Materials Knowledge on ICTC & the role & responsibility of the staff and Preventive measures of some common and some Dreaded diseases were aware to poor, vulnerable populations of the Society.

CAPACITY BUILDING OF TRADITIONAL HEALTH PROVIDERS:

Rural Association for Better Hum Peoples an Action & Training (PRABHAT) had undertaken three capacity-building trainings of THPs of Bissamcuttack, Muniguda and Kalyansingpur in Rayagada block of Rayagada district under KBK region of Odisha.  The objective of the programme is to:

  • Strengthen the existing traditional health systems and to prevent the healing systems and practices of the THPs.
  • Share the existing practices of traditional healers and document it from scientific context.
  • Knowledge providers facilitating the sharing and providing input for valediction of the practice.
  • Systematic recording & analysis on the existing practice and its effects.
