Leadership Development Training

Leadership Development Training of Community Leaders, Local Youths, Animators, taken up in Daberi Village of Dangasorda Panchayat in Chandrapur Block of Rayagada district that was attended by 43 community members including some of the interested community members who were from different streams of society esp. members of Village Development Committee, School Management Committee members as well as ASHA & Anganwadi workers.

Promotion of Education and Literacy

It is obvious a fact that Literacy and Education is still a far dream in many tribal parts of Odisha. Non-availability of many of the basic amenities of life including health and education is quite common in many parts of Odisha and Rayagada is not an exception to that.

To promote education among tribal children – PRABHAT NGO has initiated Evening classes for drop out children and non-school going eligible children – with specific emphasis on girl children. It has instructed its volunteers to depute educated youths of the locality to educate children. 

NCLP School

The organization has been running NCLP School under National Child Labour Project Rayagada which boards 23 children in that school at Budubali village in Chandrapur Block. In fact, this programme has been initiated since 22nd of August 2007 and successfully been running since then.

As yet – more than 50 children have been linked to formal schools and meanwhile, 13 students have passed out Matriculation examination and continuing education in colleges at Rayagada and Muniguda.

FINANCIAL INCLUSION QUIZ COMPETITION

PRABHAT also organized the Financial Inclusion Quiz competition for School

Children of Chandrapur, Mukundpur, Kashipur and Niyamgiri high school of Chatikona with the support of NABARD, Bhubaneswar.   This was organized for 2 days duration in each school. The competition was attended students of different schools and was graced by more than 20 dignitaries of respective areas – that boosted the morale of children and could influence community members in a lasting manner.

The emphasis on the financial inclusion of the rural poor – especially the resource poor people of the rural area are deprived of all benefits and are rather discriminated in many respects in their own communities – despite their rights and well defined privileges outlined in different schemes of Government.

Training of ASHA Workers

PRABHAT NGO with the support of UNFPA, Bhubaneswar conducted one day training    of Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) of Bisamcuttack, Kolnara, Kalyansinghpur and Ramanaguda CHCs of Rayagada district on Promoting Informed Choices and Voluntary Family Planning.

The main objective of the orientation was to strengthen “Home Delivery of Contraceptives by ASHA at the Doorstep of Beneficiaries”. 

Out of 630 ASHAs of the above said blocks, 595 ASHAs joined training. Some specific objectives of trainings were as below:

  • To improve technical knowledge of ASHAs on various contraceptive methods especially non clinical contraceptives
  • To enhance counseling skills of ASHAs on family planning programs.
  • To strengthen implementation of “Home delivery of Contraceptives by ASHA at the doorstep of the beneficiaries”.
  • To increase demand and acceptance of range of Family Planning methods by creating an enabling social environment by addressing myths and misconceptions related to the contraceptive methods.

Consumer Awareness

PRABHAT, created Awareness on the Programmes of the Bureau of Indian Standards through Street Play (Nukad Natak). The awareness themes are, Mis & Myth of Product bearing ISI mark, hallmarking of gold jewelry , treatment of premature babies, safe placement of infants, infant nutrition, Feeding devices, Monitoring the growth of infants, general physical hygiene, Services for the Common Consumers, BIS Certification mark schemes, quality testing in KBK district i.e. Koraput, Bolangir and Kalahandi districts of Odisha.  The details are as follows.

Awareness Program on PMEGP

PRABHAT NGO, Rayagada organized awareness programme on PRIME MINISTER’S EMPLOYMENT GENERATION PROGRAMME (PMEGP), guidelines in collaboration with ASPER, Bhubaneswar being supported and financed by KVIC, Bhubaneswar.  The Awareness programme is organized at Gunupur, Jaykaypur, Bissamcuttack, Chandrapur and Muniguda blocks of Rayagada district under KBK region of Odisha.  The programme is organized in close coordination with KVIC to popularize PMEGP guidelines and to educate potential beneficiaries in rural, semi rural and urban areas about the Scheme. The programme organized with the involvement and participation of unemployed men and women with special focus on SC, ST, OBC, Physically challenged, Ex-servicemen, Minorities, Women.  The awareness made by displaying banners, posters and distribution of leaflets. About 456 participants participated in the awareness generation programme.

Awareness On Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana

PRABHAT NGO, made huge awareness in Chanrapur block of Rayagada district on the scheme of Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana (PMJDY).  While addressing the awareness program, the Secretary said this awareness is to access to financial services, namely, Banking/ Savings & Deposit Accounts, Remittance, Credit, Insurance, Pension in an affordable manner.  During the awareness, sensitized to people on Account can be opened in any bank branch or Business Correspondent (Bank Mitra) outlet. Accounts opened under PMJDY are being opened with Zero balance. Objective of “Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana (PMJDY)” is ensuring access to various financial services like availability of basic savings bank account, access to need based credit, remittances facility, insurance and pension to the excluded sections i.e. weaker sections & low-income groups. This deep penetration at affordable cost is possible only with effective use of technology.  With the above awareness, we had opened 150 accounts in different banks for poor and needy people.

Awareness Program on Child Marriage:

Child marriage is a violation of child rights, and has a negative impact on physical growth, health, mental and emotional development, and education opportunities.  While regional disparities exist, child marriage has significantly decreased from 47 per cent (2006) to 29 percent (2017).  It also affects society as a whole since child marriage reinforces a cycle of poverty and perpetuates gender discrimination, illiteracy and malnutrition as well as high infant and maternal mortality rates.  Child marriage affects almost all facets of reaching the Millennium Development Goals.  Mean time our organization made aware on the evils of child marriage, and female foeticide that, occurs in large numbers in the district.  According to Census 2011, 85,000 marriages for girl children less than 14 years, and 2.65 lakh marriages for girl children less than 18 years have taken place in the State.  A Child marriage pose a great risk for the child, both physically and mentally, and in turn affects society.  Due to various reasons, child marriages still occur in the district and only by creating awareness among the parents can stop it.

To stop the child marriages our organization undertaken awareness program with the inclusion of college students through distribution of leaflets, slogans and flex banners.
